Credit for Prior Learning

Example Page

Please see below for suggested information to include on your organization's CPL landing page.

What is Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)?

Example:

The [Institution Name] recognizes that learning occurs in many places. Therefore, we allow students to earn credit for the college-level knowledge they have gained outside the classroom using a variety of methods collectively known as Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) [insert term used at your institution, as applicable].

▶️ Be sure to include the following on your CPL Landing Page:

  • Methods that you offer for evaluating a student’s prior learning.

  • For each method, whether there are any out of pocket costs to the student (e.g., assessment fees, transcription fees, administration fees).

  • What the process is for applying for CPL credit, and whether the process is different for the different methods. Is there a centralized location (such as your Credit Predictor tool) or a single point of contact that can answer their questions?

 ▶️ Reminder:

The CPL Provider Network is a free public search tool for students and an opportunity for Institutions that provide CPL to be listed in a national provider network. A link to access this public search tool will be shared with high schools, local and regional workforce boards, economic development boards, chambers of commerce, and military-affiliated institutions nationwide. This is your opportunity to shine!
