Serving as the Dean of Adult and Continuing Education and the Project Lead for Workforce Initiatives at Jarvis Christian University, Dr. Langley exemplifies the spirit of trailblazing leadership. A Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) Ambassador, Dr. Langley helps shape our organization's strategic impact by contributing her experience, expertise, and leadership. As we commemorate our 50th anniversary, we honor her as an exemplary ambassador and celebrate her work to empower working adult learners and advance workforce initiatives.

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Dr. Dorothy Langley. I am the Dean of Adult and Continuing Education at Jarvis Christian University. I also serve as the Project Lead for Workforce Initiatives. The program is located on the main campus and at the Dallas Site. I am a CAEL Ambassador.
What is your favorite part about being a member of CAEL?
I believe the favorite part is the ability to collaborate on innovative ways to support adult learners.
In its 50-year history, what would you say is CAEL’s biggest accomplishment?
The ability identify the needs of adult learners as it relates to education, training and experience.
What is CAEL’s most important contribution to the working adult learner space?
The most important contribution is promoting initiatives like Credit for Prior Learning to enhance the learning experiences of adult learners.
What would you consider to be the biggest change in higher education?
The biggest change adapting learning environments and platforms to accommodate both traditional vs. non-traditional students.
What has changed for your institution in the past 50 years?
The introduction of new modalities to accommodate adult learners.
What do you love most about your work?
I enjoy being an advocate for adult learners.
Who (or what) inspires you?
I am inspired by my students. I am their biggest supporter as they matriculate to completion.
When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy being with my family, especially my grands.
What are you listening to or watching? Any recommendations for podcasts, music, movies, or shows?
I enjoy TV dramas, rom com and Christmas movies.
What is your biggest hope for CAEL in the future?
My biggest hope is that CAEL continues to stand in the gap for education and workforce for adult learners.
What would you love to help other CAEL members with?
I am very interested in working on military efforts with my CAEL members.

Our greatest asset is collaboration. We should definitely continue to share best practices.
