The CAEL Forum and News Editorial Board is Seeking Article Proposals

The CAEL Forum and News publishes one print issue per year and the Forum and News Editorial Board is now seeking article proposals for the 2018 print issue, which will be published in late Fall 2018. The focus of this issue will be three of CAEL's Ten Principles for Effectively Serving Adult Learners.

The three principles that are the focus of this issue are:

  1. Student Outreach. New ways for conducting outreach to adult learners by overcoming barriers in time, place and tradition. This topic can also include adult student enrollment and orientation strategies.
  2. Financing. Innovation in providing different financing/payment options for adult learners to expand equity and financial flexibility. Also, strategies for providing financial guidance to avoid student loan debt.
  3. Adaptivity. Examples of institutions adjusting to shifting external market forces and adapting to the changing expectations of internal stakeholders, students, and employers'understanding the needs of those they serve by developing creative academic solutions. This topic could also cover examples of effective change management to accompany adult learner innovations.

Authors are encouraged to choose one of the three topics for an article.

Guidelines for Proposing an Article:

  • Please submit an abstract describing the article you wish to propose (limit 300 words) by March 15, 2018 to: forumnews@cael.org. Please provide the name of the author(s), institutional affiliation(s) and current title.
  • If your proposal is selected, you will be notified in mid-April. Completed article manuscripts will be due by June 15, 2018.

Guidelines for Final Manuscript (Pending Proposal Approval):

  • Electronic submissions only
  • Length: 2,000-3,000 words
  • File format: Microsoft Word document
  • Text format: 1-inch margins, 12-point font, Times New Roman, single spaced
  • References: please use in-text citations and APA style
  • Audience: ~2,000 CAEL members-Most CAEL members are organizations or individuals affiliated with higher education institutions. Other members are also from corporations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.
  • Tone/Style: Articles should incorporate language that is less formal than what is used for academic papers, with shorter sentences, fewer details, less jargon and more compact paragraphs. Authors should use frequent section headings.
  • Due: June 15, 2018 to forumnews@cael.org.
