by Carlo Bertolini on Apr 01, 2021
INDIANAPOLIS – The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) has named Doug Heckman senior director of partnership development. Heckman, an Air Force veteran, is an expert in labor market data and its role in advancing creative solutions that serve workforce and education stakeholders.
“Doug is well practiced in working with postsecondary institutions to help them identify key industry partners and to assist with aligning curricula with workforce needs,” said Jack Mills, senior vice president of partnerships, impact, and insights for CAEL. “His experience and expertise, which also include leading projects to help stakeholders leverage the use of data to drive collaboration on solving workforce challenges, align on several fronts with CAEL’s mission to link learning and work.”
Heckman’s key areas of focus at CAEL are building cross-sector solutions to benefit adult learners and employees, industry groups, employers, and postsecondary institutions. A former Air Force officer, Heckman’s previous experience also includes teaching in community colleges and universities. In addition, he worked abroad in the U.K., where he served as head of further education at Emsi, a labor market analytics firm, and Norway. He currently serves as board president for the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute and previously served as president of the board of directors for the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow, Idaho.
Heckman obtained his bachelor's degree in English from the United States Air Force Academy and holds master's degrees from San Jose State University and the University of Washington. He and his family reside in Idaho, where they enjoy access to the region’s abundant outdoor activities.
