CAEL Research Brief Reviews Latest CPL Guidance Among Postsecondary Institutional Accreditors

As more colleges and universities become aware of the many benefits of credit for prior Learning, efforts to scale and improve CPL programs are growing. Program designers need to consider the various parameters established by policymakers, including relevant accreditors. CAEL’s latest research report helps them do just that.

Accreditor Policies on Credit for Prior Learning (CPL): Guidance on CPL Provided by the Formerly Regional Accreditors, Career-Based Accreditors, and Faith-Related Accreditors focuses primarily on the CPL policies of the entities once known as “regional accreditors.” It also provides a high-level scan of CPL policies established by Career-Related Accreditors and Faith-Related Accreditors.

Accreditor Policies on Credit for Prior Learning (CPL): Guidance on CPL Provided by the Formerly Regional Accreditors, Career-Based Accreditors, and Faith-Related Accreditors complements the state and system policy summaries CAEL released just a few months ago in partnership with the American Council on Education. That publication, The National Landscape of Credit for Prior Learning: Effective State and System Policies for Success and Equity, is accompanied by an interactive state CPL policy database.

Both reports are available through CAEL’s research library.
